While we were being interviewed by Fox 56 the other day we were showing him the front doors. Frank had never noticed the winged lion carved into the bottom of the doors. Since we have been going in and out of the Mooreland House for 9 months or so and hadn’t really seen these details… we figured no one else had seen them either. So, here are some cool pictures of the front doors. The leaded glass needs to be repaired in one of the doors.
love the detail on the doors. thanks for pics

Beautiful! It makes you wonder what other ornate details embellished the house in it’s heyday.

We know the entry way fireplace mantle had carved lion heads big enough for a young child to stick her head in their mouths. We have heard some amazing stories from the great granddaughters.

Looks like a Griffin (Griffon) carved in the doors. The door hardware is massive & beautiful you are lucky it’s still there.

These doors are heavy! It would have taken quite a bit to cart them off.

The carving on the bottom of the door doesn”t really look like a lion. Maybe you could research it an see what it really is. Looks more like a mythical creature to me. Just a thought

Yes, winged lions are mythical creatures. Some call them Griffins but most of the pictures of Griffins have eagle heads.
