Brick work

A lot of things hinge on our next project. This is the bottom of the valley rafter that we replaced. The bricks have moved and we are not sure exactly what is happening. We are going to start taking this brick apart to see what we are dealing with. Once we get this area straightened out we can put all the slate back on this side of the house.

Any ideas on what is happening? I’m thinking it is kind of worrisome…

Yes, we know exactly what happened. When the original valley rafter deteriorated, all the weight that was supposed to be supported by it was transferred to this wall. The wall started to lean out and pull away from the house. Now that we have the new valley rafter supporting the roof we will be able to put things back the way they were and it will be solid. It is just a matter of taking it apart and putting it back together. It should make sense as we go through the process. Of course, we are making a video while we do it. =)

Thanks! It is exciting to have weather that is conducive to brick and mortar work so we can start making progress again.

So thankful you were able to identify the issue so quickly. Looking forward to my Sunday video tomorrow morning! I’ll look forward to this ‘valley rafter’ video as well.

We have known this needed to be fixed since the fall. We just now have the weather to fix it. Spoiler alert… all we do on the video tomorrow is clean the bathroom.
