We had to fix the big hole in the roof before we could begin the putting slate back on. We cut out all the bad stuff and replaced it with some of our salvaged roof decking that we pulled from another area of the Mooreland House that won’t be seen. We had to break out the scaffolding again in order to get up there and fix it. Who knew this hole was going to be so big!
Your talent and enthusiasm as you face each obstacle is amazing! Everything that you repair makes the bones of this house stronger and more able to weather the storms that are waiting for it in the future. Thank you for saving a structure that many others would have ignored!

Thanks for the nice comments! We have decided that most people would have given up on the ole gal. We fix one thing at a time and you are correct, each one makes the Mooreland House stronger and more able to last another 100 years.

I agree, most people would have given up on the house. I’m glad the two of you found her and are invested in restoring her.
It really makes me sad to see the pictures from not so long ago and to see the house today. Just thinking of how much was destroyed due to neglect is sad.
I enjoy following your journey. Thanks for sharing it.

We have come to the conclusion that there have been hidden problems with the house long before it started being neglected.
