Finally, something other than a roofing video! A lot of people have asked for a little more in depth tour of the porticos on the Mooreland House. Kerry has fulfilled that request. Today’s video has no construction or destruction. It is merely a video of how much design was put into the building of this beautiful mansion. Col. Moore truly loved his Minnie Ball.

    Are you going to leave the veranda enclosed or return it to the original design? Yes, it is beautiful 🤩.

      We will probably take the doors off but leave some type of steps.

    The tool marks you mentioned are blocks that were tooled by hand through a process called crandalling. Skilled stonecutters cut shallow grooves into the surface of the stone, resulting in a fine, pebble-like surface that looks more elegant and reflects light more dramatically than unaltered limestone. It’s seen all over Biltmore House in Asheville.

      Thanks Carrie! Frank has some of the tools to do that but he hasn’t tried it yet. We are going to have to remake some of the stones on the stone facades.

          No. We have found bedford stone that seems to match pretty well.

    I heard you mention that there are still water issues to address. Do you still have whole sections of the roof to repair or just small repairs in various places? I wonder how long it will take to dry out all the stonework. Thanks for making a video that highlights the front porch and veranda. It’s nice to get more details on the beautiful craftsmanship of the house.

      We still have to put slate on the back of the main part of the house. The main thing that is causing the stone to stay wet is the box gutters leaking. The box gutters leak and the water gets into the metal crown molding and then makes it’s way into the brickwork. It will be a while before we get all of that sorted out.
