Jacking Bricks

We had to jack up the brickwork to the right of the wall section we have been working on. We decided that instead of relying on the bricks to not fall again, we would use pressure treated lumber to make it again. This area had sagged a little over half an inch because the “nailer” they used for the crown molding rotted out.

Silly bricks! Glad to see you are taking the time to measure carefully to ensure everything fits exactly as it should.

The problem was the standouts for the box gutters. Half an inch at the wall translated into quite a bit more at the end of the standouts and we needed to have an accurate reference to make the new standouts the right height. Silly box gutters!

Will you be reinstalling the box gutters? If yes, how will you repair or maintain them.

We have no choice. The box gutters are integral with the architecture of the Mooreland House. We will use marine grade fiberglass and epoxy to line them.

Sounds like a good solution. I hope this house stands for a couple more centuries!
