We finally poured concrete to the top of the front wall. We now have a lot of brick work to do and then we can start on the dormer. We are excited to be at the top! It has been a journey. We know a lot more about stonework now and are ready to tackle the huge rocks on the dormer facade.
So exciting!

It was a few months getting back to here.

Between the concrete and stone, this facade should be strong enough to support the heaviest of vultures and the dormer too. The stonework looks great. Once you get the dormer in, Im sure that will motivate you to tackle other stonework like at the tower. Or will you be taking a break from it?

We actually will wait until we get done and then decide. The Mooreland House is pretty good at letting us know what needs attention next.

I remember the dormer imposts looked very heavy when you removed them as did the voussoirs. I am sure this will be a very tricky thing to reinstall since they are heavy and must be set just right for the keystone (not really a keystone) at the top to fit just right. Good thing you took pictures!

Yes, the stones are very heavy. We have a davit on order to see if we can figure out how to set them carefully. The first stones to go up on the dormer weigh just over 300 pounds.

It’s so amazing how far you have come and how innovative you’ve been to make sure she is strong enough to last another 100+ years. I remember when you started this wall and I was so nervous that it might come tumbling down around you. You have made it look like she never even had that huge crack running down the face. It looks incredible.

Thanks! We were concerned about it falling as well. That’s why we took it all down. We were very apprehensive when we started but it turned out just fine.
