We decided to move the scaffolding off of the back flat roof. It was there for over a year and the synthetic felt is worn out. We need to strip all of it off and put some permanent roofing back. What a mess.

Does that roof have a bit of angle to keep the elements off of it? It’s hard to tell in the pics. P.S. this little ‘cubbie’ area (where the scaffolding is now) is one of my favorites spaces around the outside of the house!

Yes, we added some slope to this roof in certain areas so it would actually drain. It is still considered a “flat roof” but it slopes about 1 inch in every foot. Interesting that one of your favorite areas of the outside is probably one of the wettest.

This is the little roof next to the stain glass? It had huge holes in it. Are you going to take it all down? The beams look rotted.

Yes, the stained glass is behind those blue insulation panels. We have replaced the rotted wood on this roof. We just need to get some permanent roofing materials on it.

When you’re finished with the permanent roof will you expose the stained glass window?

No, the stained glass needs protection from slate on the roof above. We also need to put some type of shade or rebuild the roof over the stained glass. It gets too hot in the direct sunlight and has the potential to sag the lead.
