It was warmer outside than in the Mooreland House. We decided to finish pulling the roots of the bushes we trimmed this summer. Bertha treats them like they are not even there. Kerry barely has to use the accelerator to pull them. It was cold enough that we didn’t take many pictures.
Frank and Kerry, pardon the off topic question but what is all that white ‘chalky’ looking stuff on the brick and what causes it? Will power washing one day remove it (I know you’ve said some power washing is not good) or how will the brick be treated to bring it back to its glory day?
P.S. pulling weeds is satisfying to me! 😉

Most of that white stuff is dried up algae. This entire area was trees and bushes and the algae was growing quite well on the walls. We are hoping it will just come off once we get around to cleaning it. We will be able to pressure wash the walls once we repoint all the gaps in the mortar.

I was wondering about a task that might be on your outdoor to do list. Are you planning on trimming back or removing a tree or two whose branches are hanging over the portico roof?

We plan on doing quite a bit of tree trimming. Any branches that are touching the house will be gone eventually.
