We had to replace 2 of the floor joists before we poured the concrete. The ends of the joists will be embedded in the concrete. It probably wasn’t necessary but as a precaution we treated the ends by scorching them and using an old wood treatment technic. Still not sure how the radiator was still on the second floor since it was resting where the hole is.
Interesting fact about scorching the lumber. I have never heard of that before.

It’s a Japanese technic for treating lumber.

That’s pretty cool. Curious…how is the concrete bonded to the stone? Is there a chance the stone will buckle from the sheer weight and fall down?

We are tying the stone into the concrete in more than one way. We have galvanized steel, copper and fiberglass ties in different areas for redundancy just in case one type doesn’t last for 100 years.
